Review of Songs from the Second Floor (2000) by Cory W — 01 Jun 2008
This incredibly bizarre Swedish/French production is at times hilarious and at times sardonic at its best. Laughs come in the guise of smiles with eyes of wonder and the beautifully executed depth photography competes well with the lonely , cold atmosphere that the film is permeated with.
Taken on face value the film will seem lethally depressing. However when taken with a pinch of existential drama and a spoonful of Beckettian dark humor, a delicious dish of filmic delight is served up.
