Review of Songs from the Second Floor (2000) by Ben M — 14 Mar 2010
The simplicity and absurdity of this film reminded me of Tati at times. However, it was lacking any coherence. Still, it was an admirable effort that has gone on to be one of the most well-received films of the decade.
It's definitely a film of its time, marking a spot in history where the YK2 scare and 9/11 left everyone wondering if the world was on a brink of extinction. Technically speaking, this could not have been an easy film to make.
A shame it didn't really come together for me.
