Review of Song of the South (1946) by Dustin P — 31 Aug 2007
Nowhere near as racist as them P.C. obcessed white folks in suits at disney think it is... its still a charming tale about antebellum southern folklore, with a good message of harmony at the end... also a breakthrough in animation as being one of the first films to combine live action and animation, and has great performances by the cast.
.. granted, it does somewhat romantisize rural southern jim crow life, but nowhere in the movie is anyone talked down to or disrespected based on race. The characters are portrayed as someone multidimensional (or at least as dimensional as a walt disney kids flik can get), and at the end, the white kid and the black kid are smiling, holding hands, and singing along.
... and that's what's important.
