Review of Song of the South (1946) by Kimber M — 27 Oct 2007
It's sad that this movie is seen as so controversial that Disney won't even acknowledge it's existence anymore. Yes, it paints a rosy picture of life on the plantation, but no more so than movies like Jezebel.
The wisdom of Uncle Remus and his tales of Brer Rabbit far outweigh any detriment the live action portions may possibly portray. Finally, I watched this movie with my kids, as I think parents really should do with any movie, and we were able to talk about the messages and issues brought up by the movie.
I loved the stories and songs as a kid and I want my children to be able to as well.
