Review of Sonatine (1993) by Chris S — 24 Aug 2007
I definitely do admire Kitano's Hemingway-type direction. His images are simple but his movies stick with you after you see them. The script is funny and shockingly violent much like Fireworks, another work I saw by him.
However, my only complaint was that his script wasn't as intriguing as Fireworks. The film felt lost halfway through Sonatine (though it had some funny moments) and the ending felt out of place. Other than that, it's an interesting movie to watch if you want to see a different kind of gangster film.
