Review of Sonatine (1993) by Paul J — 03 Sep 2009
The lighthearted moments of the Yakuza men playing at the beach like children work brilliantly along with the melancholic undercurrent that flows throughout the movie, specially in relation to Kitano's character and his suicidal tendencies.
Considering it's basically a movie about waiting, the way those visual and thematic elements meet at the climax is truly breathtaking.
