Review of Son of Rambow (2007) by Lee G — 29 Mar 2009
Two boys, unlikely friends, both in their own unique "prisons", seek solace in each other. There's enough quirkiness and unexpected moments to keep the story fresh, but on a whole, the film is a little uneven.
There's a whole side story involving french exchange students that, while it offers some laughs when things get serious, seems out of place. Very creative, stylish animation is peppered throughout, but the tone shift at the end was upsetting, coming after the rest of a film that felt fun and unfettered.
