Review of Son of Rambow (2007) by Noah C — 27 Apr 2010
This movie, seriously, might be my favorite.
The story revolves around a young, friendless Jehovah's Witness boy with a knack for creativity and a big heart. His family and religious views keep him from embracing and exploring the things he loves, as well as the friends he'd like to have. All that changes when he meets another boy his age at school that wants him to be in a movie he's making. They become good friends, and the story goes on from there.
First off, I just want to comment about the heart of this movie. There was not a moment of this movie that I didn't just feel the soul and heart of the filmmakers pouring out my screen. Everything from the writing, to the characters, to the music, to the story (oh, the story...) - you just fell so in love with everything about this movie.
Of course, maybe it's just me. I can relate a lot to the main character of this movie, and I used to make little backyard movies myself when I was a kid, so I could relate immensely to the story, but still - it's such a great thing to watch.
The acting was great - especially for a movie full of child/younger actors. They made you feel everything you needed to feel, and said everything you needed to hear.
The music was quirky and fun, and the direction, cinematography, the sudden inclusion of cartoony day-dreams were all just right.
All in all, this movie has made a place in my heart, and I do not suspect it will leave anytime soon.
5/5. A must see.
