Review of Son of Godzilla (1967) by Gavin S — 14 Jun 2007
This film is a lot better than it has any right to be. For starters, it introduced us to Minilla, a creature that is supposed to be a baby Godzilla but looks nothing at all like Godzilla. The Godzilla suit in this movie is absolutely hideous and should have been scrapped the second the special effects department laid eyes on it.
However, to compensate we are given three giant praying mantises called Kamacuras and a giant spider named Kumonga that are quite awesome. the human story in this manages to be entertaining as well, and the musical score proves that while Masaru Sato is certainly no Akira Ifukube, he's the best person to call when you can't get Ifukube.
The ending really shouldn't make me tear up, but yet it always manges to do so.
