Review of Son of God (2014) by Dave C — 11 Apr 2014
I have to admit that I still have a rest of faith that makes me cry while seeing Biblical movies. "Son Of God" is one of these dull repeated stories that try to you spiritually and emotionally maybe to recreate your faith, or to renew your life with some good intentions.
I don't like the way of narrating, I prefer to see or even to read. Well, let's leave this, Son of God tells the story of humanity starting with tales of Adam, Noah, Moses, and Abraham.. Then Jesus' birth, Jewish nation.. his crucifixion, resurrection, and his message which was carried by the apostles. It comes after about ten years of Mel Gibson's "The Passion Of The Christ" which I didn't like very much when I saw it at the first time, then I convinced myself that the role of Jesus is so hard to be played by any actor nor directed by any director, so I satisfied myself with that. Here it's nearly the same, so I'm not a fan of Christopher Spencer's Son of God with handsome "Diogo Morgado". This movie again uses the way of showing pain to make the feelings or faith, losing several chances to show emotions and miracles. I don't know if that was intentional to show Jesus as a spirit after his resurrection (Is this a doubt or what?), but I don't like the idea. The music is annoying most of time, and this is the most version of Christ's movies using visual effects, I think.
It's messy, indeed. You may sympathize with the events by means of faith, but you'll definitely get confused somehow, so that temporary feeling will be erased soon.
