Review of Son of a Gun (2014) by Tristan M — 02 Sep 2015
This movie has everything we have seen far to many times before: prison break, one last job, stealing gold, double cross, and escaping with the girl that is held against her will with the main bad guy.
Most of the time at best these movies get a 6/10, but for whatever reason this one with all those clichà (C)s is far above those others. The acting is good, and so is the script, but besides Ewan has largely unknown actors to fill the ranks, and they perform.
The prison is a good place to start off and get out characters, and we get them and from then on we are attached as they are well developed for the most part. Then they escape, and set off for one last job, in which they set the stage for a great shootout and car chase, something I had not expected to be this well done in this particular movie.
The action was great overall, and when they lost a man the piano tune main song was really fitting and I quite enjoyed it. The ending is something we could have seen coming but still is surprising and a great way to send off, again with the piano tune which got stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
So overall I was surprised by this one, it was well done and nice to see Ewan again, playing in a good action role. The story is good and when the action scenes get going they are a thrill to watch.
