I'm very hot and cold with Sofia Coppola, while I hate "The Virgin Suicides", I love "Lost in Translation" and while "Somewhere" is not a masterpiece of the prior's stature, I think damn near everything about this one worked perfectly. She has her style nailed down and it's definitely that less is more. More than half of the film has no dialogue and a couple scenes are longer than they should be but she's forcing you to slow down and take a look at things you wouldn't normally care about.

Stephen Dorff was perfectly cast and a joy to watch embody this part while his daughter, played by Elle Fanning, had all the idiosyncrasies of an 11-year old girl. As soon as it was over, I wanted to watch it again, if only for the beautiful loop of the opening and closing shots.
