Review of Somewhere (2010) by Dave L — 17 May 2011
Sofia Coppola attempts to return to the same kind of mood that won her so much acclaim for 'Lost in Translation' (a movie which I greatly liked). In "Somewhere", she fails. The theme is supposed to be about some burnt out Hollywood star in a downward cycle over his fame and yada, yada, yada.
Instead, the movie is filled with scenes that seem to go nowhere and drag on forever. At an hour and 38 minutes- this could have been a somewhat effective short film of about 35 minutes. Yeah, so what? Johnny is burnt out on his celebrity.
Watching this movie doesn't make me care.
