Review of Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) by Frank H — 29 Mar 2009
Although the first half is a good snoozathon, this Walt Disney meets Twin Peaks (yes, with Dwarf) really gets going in the 2nd half, gets scary, gets REALLY weird, and you wonder how on earth something like this would get a PG rating.
Jonathan Pryce is menacing as Mr. Dark, a carnival owner with PLENTY of secrets up his sleeve. He wants two two boys to join his carnival of souls if you will, it's up to Jason Robards to stop it! I suppose in a Walt Disney film, that would make sense, but still, seeing Jason Robards in a film like this is still odd.
