Review of Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) by Louis J — 15 Jul 2009
Robards and Pryce are fantastic in this frustrating film that has trouble finding its tone. At times it's a bit too kid friendly (Disney did produce it), but at other times it's very lyrical and poetic, perfectly capturing the book's unique voice.
I found the more poetic sections to be the most effective. Bradbury's language as spoken by Pryce and Robards has a real spark to it that's unnerving and creepy. The scene where they encounter one another in the library is wonderfully performed and directed.
