Review of Something Like Summer (2017) by Jeff S — 26 Sep 2017
In a world surrounded with "straight" love stories it's refreshing to have a movie with substance speak of first love, growing up in a oppressed society and coming to terms with one's own sexual identity.
The musical aspect was a great addition to keep it from looking like a higher end daytime soap opera. Typical cliches of "not exactly like the book" but it was pretty darn close. Totally understand it would have been a 3 or more hour movie if it had.
If you're gay, or have an openly diverse taste for either gay or straight love stories - see it. At times it will make you cry and others it will make you feel warm inside. But no where near what the book will do to you.
Bravo to the cast, film makers and of course the author.
