Review of Something Borrowed (2011) by Sarah C — 12 Sep 2011
Something Borrowed is the story about friendship and guilt, love and the fear of saying how you really feel. This might be the type of movie that we've seen a thousand times before. There's nothing different about it. Girl falls in love with best friend's boyfriend. We've read it in books and seen it in movies and there's nothing different about it. We know exactly how it's going to end, but still it pulls us in.
It has a fantastic soundtrack but also a power that makes you physically hate some of the characters which makes you even more hooked when watching the movie. I quite enjoyed it despite it being predictable, because sometimes I can find myself in the mood for predictability, where you know the ending already but this movie still made you want to continue watching it because of the amazing music and the reminder of how it feels to be in love.
Although, when it comes to the title, it can be interpreted your own way. There is a wedding superstition that goes "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence in your shoe." Maybe that has something to do with it. Seeing as falling for your best friend's fiancée isn't bound to end happily... or is it?
