Review of Some Like It Hot (1959) by Max S — 25 Nov 2012
I know, I know, I know. "You haven't seen Some like it Hot?!" I'd like to thank IMDB's normal reviewers for keeping this movie on the top 250 list. Otherwise, I wouldn't have sat down on my couch and watched it tonight. I would also like to thank the library for keeping a stocked DVD shelf and allowing me to renew this movie...twice (I know...I procrastinate). You can thank the other dozen people who haven't seen this movie and are the main reason I decided to write a review. I originally was only going to watch it for my sake. Now it seems there are quite a few others that haven't seen it.
Some Like It Hot is a classic comedy. I'm not a huge fan of old black and white movies. I have a short attention span and the music can put me to sleep. I was worried at first but this movie is very fast paced. We are introduced to two male musicians (Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) who are very desperate for a job. Joe and Jerry get into some messy business with the mob. They witness a murder and decide to take a very odd job. The job is for female musicians with blonde hair. They are very convincing minus the Adam's Apples. This is when we are introduced to Marilyn Monroe. More about her in the next paragraph. This movie has a lot of twists and turns. It's so goofy and fun. I didn't know what to expect and I wasn't disappointed.
I was really put off by Marilyn Monroe for a very long time. She was on every piece of clothing that could fit on your body and on every accessory you would ever want to use. It was annoying and still is. This was my first time seeing her in a movie. She is remarkably beautiful and oh my does she have curves. Not only was she extremely attractive but she was a great actress! Well, this is the only movie I can judge her on but so far I am very pleased. I'm not going to run out and buy a bunch of Marilyn Monroe merchandise but I will look forward to any movies I see her in.
Some Like It Hot is a great movie to watch at home on the weekend. The music didn't put me to sleep and I laughed multiple times. Monroe can even make the ladies swoon.
