Review of Some Like It Hot (1959) by Marie M — 04 Jan 2010
Multiple layers of comedy layered within a sex farce - they don't make movies like this anymore. Though it begins on a slow note, the movie picks up speed once the leads are on the run (in skirts).
Beneath the smart, incisive dialogue beats a heart of gold: no character is treated with condescension; even Monroe's superficial gold digger has her moments where she reaches beyond her stereotypical niche.
Overall, a testament to the genius of writer-producer-director Billy Wilder.
