Review of Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) by Ms Amanda J — 30 Jan 2011
Elias Koteas is entertaining as hell, Eric Stoltz is dreamy in a heavily feminine way, and despite myself I did find the ending moving. That's where my praises of this film end. In typical 80s teen film fashion, the plot is overly melodramatic, and the climax pretty ridiculous.
The love story between Stoltz and Thompson just never made sense, because it was really only about lust from start to finish. And throughout the first act, I was really creeped out by the stalker qualities of Stoltz.
But then, who doesn't remember exchanging diamond earrings on a first date?
