Review of Solomon Kane (2009) by Tibor B — 01 Oct 2010
Average swords and sorcery action film, which takes an agonisingly earnest tone to an already humourless and heavy script. Purefoy, basically a cheap Hugh Jackman, carries the title role quite well and there's a solid cast and suitably grey and grim cinematography.
The CGI is patchy, but delivers in the final battle scene with a Balrog-like demon. Unfortunately, the pacing of the film is all over the place, sometimes unnecessarily slow and with key scenes rushed, and the musical score is about as subtle as a hammer.
