Review of Solomon Kane (2009) by Kevin R — 09 Apr 2015
I am the devil's reaper.
Solomon Kane is a ruthless mercenary that craves nothing but money for his own personal gain; however, when he discovers his success was due to the aid of the devil and his soul is now due, he renounces his path and pursues the path of righteousness and good. While on this path, he is aided by a family that takes him in...but they are brutally slain and their daughter kidnapped. Kane decides to head back down the path of evil in hopes of saving the girl.
"What do you feed them?".
"Flesh.".
Michael Bassett, director of Deathwatch, Wilderness, and Silent Hill Revelations, delivers Solomon Kane. The storyline for this picture is actually very good and reminded me of a cross between Game of Thrones and Constantine. The settings, scenery, costumes, and action scenes were all awesome. The villains were just okay, but a bit predictable, and I enjoyed the pace of the film very much. The acting was solid for the genre and the cast includes James Purefoy, Max von Sydow, Pete Postlewaite, and Mackenzie Crook.
"She said all of the devil's children are free to walk the Earth now.".
I have actually wanted to see this for some time and just got around to watching it off Netflix recently. I will say I thought this film was awesome for about 80 percent of the picture. The conclusion kind of disappointed me and was the one time I felt the special effects were a bit overdone; but as a whole, this is a very good action picture that is definitely worth your time and I hope they make a sequel to this one day.
"To serve us, you have to join us.".
Grade: B.
