Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Candis S — 05 Jun 2018
While this movie was surprisingly more enjoyable than I expected it to be, the standards were certainly lowered after The Last Jedi fan fiction Disney movie. I also consider this movie to be fan fiction, as is evinced from all of the original Trilogy call backs and fan service.
However Alden Ehrenreich was a surprise in terms of his performance. While he was not even remotely Han Solo by either character action or character chemistry, if you could imagine him as some new and different character, he did have his own charm and charisma.
Woody Harrelson was also enjoyable. But sadly, Disney threw in too many Social Justice messages and a less than remarkable story. Granted, at least it wasn't the all too cliche "The Galaxy is In danger if such and such doesn't happen.
" That being said, there was no need for this story to be told, other than the fact that Disney wanted to make money on trying to tell a Solo origin tale. And lastly...NO...that is NOT how Han Solo got his name Disney LOL.
As Dead Pool would say "Now, that's just lazy writing.".
