Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Craig R — 30 May 2018
For me, this was a return to what makes the world's most valuable franchise great - it was fun, uplifting, the humour was spot on and true to the classic LucasFilm style and the action was superb. This film will build for audiences over time who are still a bit confused by the muddled 'Last Jedi' which attempted to be 'new' but only knew how to destroy valuable aspects of the franchise, not to create genuinely thrilling new concepts.
In my mind, we are still waiting for genuine innovation in this series (since The Empire Strikes Back), and it may come, but until then, Solo brings back superb filmmaking, genuine humanity, humour and thrills to the franchise.
it's good to have Star Wars back.
