Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Pankaj P — 31 May 2018
A meh movie that only gets worse after viewing. Han at the end of the movie feels nothing like the Han Solo of A New Hope. Most of the story seemed obvious and a lot of low hanging fruit. Out side of the twist at the end the entire movie was really predictable.
Speaking of the twist in the end, it is a plot thread the those who only watch the movies will likely never get a resolution to (though that is a movie I would have rather seen than this one).
Really didnt establish much of any thing worthy of eliminating the old extend universe canon. Never touched on the life debt aspect of his relationship with Chewie which could have added more depth and character motivation in one scene in particular.
Shot composition is almost all mids and closeups. The movie offers very little world building that even the worst Star Wars movies do well. Only one maybe two shots I would say are worthy of turning a still into a poster.
SJW controversy stuff wasn't as in your face as it was made out to be before the release. Even if you agree with the side the writers are on politically, the moments of the movie that are in their are just crengy. The only saving grace to the worst of them was Lando's reaction to it.
