Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Mike K — 31 May 2018
**** SPOILER REVIEW ****.
After Disney's debacle with TLJ, I feared for the worst. Thankfully, Solo was 10x better than TLJ, although not without its flaws.
By far the biggest problem with Solo is Kathleen Kennedy's SJW imprint. I don't care what side of the aisle you're on politically, but as a die hard Star Wars fan the last thing I want to see in a SW movie is a political agenda, which was extremely heavy handed in TLJ and also present in Solo. Between the whole "droid rights" angle espoused by a super feminist L-3 and the marauders-turned-feminists/activists, this film yet again arrogantly force feeds fans Kathleen Kennedy's political views, which I find completely repugnant and arrogant.
I feel bad for Alden and Donald who were cast perfectly for their roles. They were very believable as Han and Lando. The screenplay was good. Humor was well-placed and not stupid like in TLJ. The film leaves open the potential for sequels which I hope will get made despite the lukewarm reception, which I think is more due to fan backlash from TLJ than from its own merits.
Lastly, despite being a bit heavy-handed with some of the fanboy references and allusions, the film actually did an admirable.
