Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Davidson H — 02 Jun 2018
Solo: A Star Wars Story. MY REVIEW: I was there in 1977 when Star Wars was introduced to the world. It changed me in so many ways and had an impact on me like it did for all eight year old's at that time. Han Solo from the very beginning was my favorite character and remains so till this very day. When I was eight my hair was always parted to the side, but after seeing Harrison Ford as Han Solo my hair was parted in the middle because I related to the character and we all wanted to be Solo. Even today my hair is parted in the middle because of Han Solo and Ford. So now you know how I love this character and how critical my thinking was when I walked into seeing Solo: A Star Wars Story.
First To begin this personal review I want to say that I like how the films always begin with a spaceship in space. It is tradition for any Star Wars film. I was disappointed from the start when this film had none of it. I felt it not as a Star Wars film. I have to admit now that that was my only complaint.
This film brought me back to my childhood, and no other Star Wars film has done that until today. Ron Howard did a superb job on this film. The casting was excellent, the acting was excellent, special effects excellent, and the 3D in the theater was top notch, and better than Avengers Infinity Wars. I have not seen better 3D since Tron Legacy.
Suddenly during the film I felt myself become eight years old again when Han was navigating and running away from tie fighters. That was the moment that I realized that this film is the closest Star Wars film to hit the mark of the originals. For me this is the fourth best film out of all the Star Wars films, and only behind the original series.
The actor who played Han did a fine job and I was impressed. At the start of the film I did not see him as Han, by the end he was Han Solo. I also thought Mr. Glover did a fine job playing Lando. First when he was introduced I thought they used a Billy Dee Williams voice track, and than later realized that this guy was spot on in casting. Amazing young Lando. The script was very good as well and all characters believable.
The antagonist was one of the best. Seeing Darth Maul and what happened in the end gave me hopes of seeing young Solo in more films. This is the first Star Wars film since Episode six where I said I would pay to seeing it again. I loved this film from five minutes in till the last credit. This is the best Star Wars film in almost 40 years. I can't say enough. It brought back my faith in the franchise.
