Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Carlos D — 02 Jun 2018
This is the Star Wars film I was looking for. A fun heist film, set in my favorite galaxy, with characters I care about. The chemistry between Han and Chewie was awesome. Lando was stellar. Loved the character designs and all the creatures and aliens.
Finally the aliens were given more than just window dressing treatment. It's one of the things that I hated about Last Jedi. I'm terms of story TLJ felt flat. In the sense that the story has been focused entirely on just first order and resistance.
Even the aliens in the film were only there for window dressing. I don't remember a single memorable line, IF they were giving any. This film, felt more true to the original trilogy. In the sense that the world and galaxy felt rich and filled with all sorts of factions.
In the Original trilogy, the empire were the "big" bad guys, but the galaxy was filled with all sorts of factions, from gangsters, scoundrels, and all sorts of villainy. Even the jawas and sand people felt threatening in their own way.
Solo, captured that feeling of being in an incredible universe, filled with many factions all fighting for control. The pirates of envy's nest were awesome. And the additional cast such as Qi'ra anBecket were great additions to the known cast.
Just a great escape ride, with all the fun. I'm just glad Ron Howard brought the fun back to Star Wars. This is what I remember feeling as a kid, and now I'm sharing it with my own little ones.
