Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Wall C — 17 Jun 2018
The casting of Alden Ehrenreich was a poor choice. Jamie Costa or Anthony Ingruber would have been better. The reason that the young Obi Wan Kenobi was well received in the prequels is BECAUSE Ewen MacGregor did a SPOT ON IMPERSONATION of Alec Guinness for 2-hours straight each movie, for a total of 6-hours worth of an Alec Guinness impersonation. NOBODY COMPLAINED ABOUT MACGREGOR COPYING ALEC GUINNESS. It was the correct move. Yes, the fans want to see an exact copy. Even Disney did this with Rogue One (which I gave 5-stars to). Tarkin was an exact copy with the actor's voice and CGI face, and Princess Lea was also an exact copy. They did not use a different actor like they did for Solo, and it did not work.
Spoiler: The Darth Maul scene was awesome. Why? Because they used the same actor and didn't change anything.
