Review of Solitary Man (2009) by Tim B — 17 Sep 2010
Great new drama, or modern day Death of a Salesman? I'd have to say, this film was great, but keeping a story line similar to the novel Death of Salesman. In fact the last names of the protagonists were close, Loman, Kalmen.
Michael Douglas does play a great character, nothing short of Dustin Hoffman's performance of Willy Loman. Ben Kalmen is a middle aged male, living in the past. Kalmen takes a turn for the worst as he finds out he has a heart problem and watches as his career and family life takes a turn for the worst.
As does Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman, Ben Kalmen realizes he's not as cherished by his peers as he had thought. Kalmen realizes the family and friends he has left behind, were the ones that truly cared for him.
If you have read the book or have seen the film Death of a Salesman, take a look at this movie. You may like watching the same plot again, only in a more modern form.
