Review of Solaris (2002) by Ed Fucking H — 23 Oct 2010
I haven't seen the original yet so I'm not trying to compare the two here, and it is possible that my rating will go down after seeing the original. As it stands right now though I thought this was an intresting science fiction movie, with good acting and a great sense of atmosphere and isolation is brought forth.
Unfortunantly the romance got in the way of the science fiction for me and was distracting. I also found it to be incredibly slow and at the end I didn't feel it really added up to all that much beyond the romance.
That being said the original is almost double the running time, so I'm sure the intresting ideas that I did like in this movie will be better fleshed out there. Time will tell.
