Review of Solaris (2002) by Jay L — 14 Jul 2011
"I could tell you what's happening, but I don't know if that would really tell you what's happening.".
A hypnotically unique, psychological science-fiction thrill ride that really grabs you. A mentally-stimulating and thought-provoking film that just radiates with awe and fascination throughout. Director Steven Soderbergh (The Ocean's Trilogy, Traffic) collaborated with Producer James Cameron to bring this psychological-science fiction romance remake to the big screen. This one has a seriously strange feel to it, it's reality-bending concepts and the overall tone of it are truly hynotic. Solaris is an absolutely compelling, endlessly suspenseful, utterly romantic, spectacularly engaging and marvelously inventive piece of pure excellence from start to finish. You have never seen a more touching and imaginative science fiction film, this was a seriously stunning psychological experience. The Direction is awesome, the cinematography is flawless, the story is visceral and the concept s are one of a kind. Another great piece of work from Director Steven Soderbergh, a bold remake of a classic, and he nailed it.
George Clooney shows that he has unlimited boundaries when it comes to acting, an amazing talent. He is absolutely astounding throughout. Natascha McElhone is great. But it's Jeremy Irons who stole the show here, his performance was just a thrill to watch. He was nearly perfect. Excellent. Trippy. Magnetic. Electrifying. Must-see entertainment that will take your breath.
