Review of Solaris (2002) by V T — 13 Jan 2009
The one of the ultimate goals of a piece of art is to touch an emotional nerve, to make us feel something and react accordingly, a comedy or cariacture touching our sense of humor, a Goya painting or horror film touching the sense of fear and revulsion, etc.
Art can be analyzed, dissected explained and reexplained. Whole college courses can be given on one piece of art and everything going on within it, but what needs no examination is that that piece of art has the power to move.
Solaris is a beautifully put together film, acted very well with a cerebral, mind-bending plot and a stunning finish. The whole film is a sucker-punch to the emotional solar plexus, from the opening moments to the end credits.
I don't understand everything percisely that's going on in the film, but I do know that it has moved me like precious few movies have done.
