Review of Solaris (2002) by Stu N — 31 Mar 2009
Director steven soderbergh creates a stanley kubrickian sci-fi movie - a la "2001: a space odyssey". this is a philosophical meditation on god, creation, humanness and memory disguised as sci-fi. I really liked it.
The premise: a mysterious planet that seems to have some kind of power to create causes havoc on an earth spacecraft that was sent to probe it. a therapist (clooney) of some sort is dispatched to find out what's going on.
This is not the kind of movie you're going to just kick back and enjoy. i'd say it requires a fair amount of analysis to get any sort of enjoyment out of. if you liked "2001" you may like this.
