What can I say about this extreme parody of the backstage goingson at a soap opera â?? which has much behind-the-scenes drama? It's a fun romp for a Friday night lock-in. As someone with a Radio, TV and film degree, I, of course, appreciated the realistic (and unrealistic) lengths the show's producers would go in order to drive the ratings up.
Expect a lot of comedy. From the over-the-top antics of these characters to the equally larger than life revelations about much of the cast. Even the name of the fictional soap, "The Sun Also Sets" finds humor.
(What the hell does that even mean?!) Kevin Cline, Sally Field, Cathy Moriarty and Elisabeth Shue, along with Robert Downey Jr., contribute to the comedy in their performances. Sure, the movie makes the daytime television community look like a bunch of idiots, but viewers will find it amusing and enjoy the ride.
Not Oscar-worthy, but worth the watch.
