Review of Soapdish (1991) by Matthew M — 03 Feb 2009
Its intentional trash spiraling ever downward with downey, field and goldberg galore. Parodying a soap opera may seem a simple task, but if the writers were just trying to find some combination of absurd characters found in real life daytime television intent on ruining reputations at all costs, they managed to make them, I hate to say it, lovable in that glittery perverse way.
I used to watch this movie constantly with my best friend when we were kids and following the plot felt like the ultimate revenge on adolescence mocking soap operas before we were old enough to develop an interest in them.
The Sun Also Sets is the only one I will ever watch. I hope it is still as good as I remember it.
