Review of Snowpiercer (2013) by Al M — 03 Jan 2015
This is what dystopianism looks like--forget all that derivative young-adult crap: a frozen world brought on by attempts to forestall climate change and a single utopian train that acts as a kind of Noah's ark that perpetually circles this damned world and keeps its few survivors alive.
A film about class struggles and marginalization, Snowpiercer delves into the dark heart of human society to reveal how social forces control both those at the lower levels and in the echelons of command.
It is a film about the need to return to genuine human emotions and empathy to forestall the horrors that cold logic and survival instinct foster.
