Review of Snowpiercer (2013) by Jeff H — 04 Feb 2015
Wilford (Ed Harris): "Curtis, everyone has their preordained position. And everyone is in their.
Position, except you.".
Curtis (Chris Evans): "That's what people in the best place say to people in the worst place.".
When I first saw the trailer, I thought this looked pretty interesting but after watching the film, I can happily say this surpassed all expectations. Not only was the story unique, but its delivery was uniquely interesting as well; a totally refreshing approach to story-telling. The acting was surprisingly good too, from the entire cast! I mean, they have the dependable veteran actors like John Hurt and Ed Harris, who can pretty much read the phone book and deliver more powerful performances than 75% of "actors" in other big budget films; but even from Chris Evans who is most notably known for his earnest portrayal of Captain American and more comedic roles like Johnny Storm (in Fantastic Four) or as Jensen (in the "Losers" movie adaptation) and is rarely cast in this kind of serious performances, really did deliver a genuinely good performance. But of course, there is always that one outstanding performance that would make the film worth watching and that honor goes to the always brilliant and talented Tilda Swinton, whose portrayal of the devilishly twisted Mason alone was worth the price admission. I mean this woman rocked like fraggle! She absolutely embodied her character so completely that it was almost eerie how almost natural it seemed. Kind of creepy but what an outstanding perfomance she gave-- hands down the best chracter (probably my favorite) int he entire film and Tilda is truly a gifted but underrated character actor/actress. Overall, I loved the how the story unfolded-- some parts of the plot was pretty predictable but I believe it is the red herring in the whole plot. The ending was alright, but satisfactory to the story. I really dug this film-- it is so good, a gotta watch it film (IMHO). ^_^.
