Review of Snowpiercer (2013) by Andrew M — 03 Jul 2017
OK, so I liked this, but I'm not sure how much, nor whom else this would appeal to. I've heard some people, based on the trailer, say it looks like "The Hunger Games on a Train, which isn't accurate" -- the similarities are superficial.
Honestly, the closest movie I can think of to it is, "The Cube", but even that's not quite right. Symbolism wise, it seems to mix elements of Buddhism, Hinduism, and the Old Testament. It's beautifully shot, for sure, and some of the set pieces are intriguing, and all the actors are suitable for their roles and do well in them.
Definitely not for everyone, and although there is an effort to avoid outright gore, there is a lot of blood. While I'm mixed on the ending and overall premise, I'd recommend this if you're in the mood for a bit of a more thought-inducing action film (though not necessarily thoughtful, haven't decided on that yet).
