Review of Snowden (2016) by Douglas L — 03 May 2017

NOT ENOUGH OLIVER STONE CONTROVERSY! The first half of this film, I sat watching the film and thinking to myself, "How did this movie not get more attention?!" I really felt everything that was being said in the movie, needed to said and SHOULD be heard; given where we are in today's world in the technology-era.

But then the second half kind of turns into a Steve Jobs film. I love Oliver Stone and still do! "Platoon," is without a doubt my favorite Oliver Stone film of all time and I still watch it constantly to this day! But because of "Platoon," it led me to movies like "Born On The Fourth Of July," "JFK," and "Nixon.

" And somewhere along those lines, especially with "JFK," and "Born On The Fourth Of July," is where Oliver Stone cemented his place in my mind as without a doubt one of the most important and in many ways the greatest filmmaker EVER! But now, years have passed since those films were made and a lot of them still hold up to this day, but I fear Oliver Stone hasn't.

Look every director in Hollywood goes through their slump of movies and eventually turn things around like Scorsese did when he met Leonardo DiCaprio after a slump or two with his films. But Oliver Stone seriously has not made an impacting movie in some time.

..As much as I try not to worry about things, as we all do in life. I can't help, but wonder what's going on with Oliver Stone? His material just isn't adding up the way it use to...Maybe it's bad material? And I'm not saying that "Snowden" is a bad movie because it's not! But.

..it could have been SO much more than what it is...Which is a mediocre satire of what the real Edward Snowden. For those of you who don't know, I can only suggest two things because I really don't feel like getting into the political contents of what this man did, because it was pretty big at the time when it happened.

So you can either A.) Watch the film. Or B.) Look it up on YouTube. Either way, I feel if you're my age...you should have heard it by now. But if not, no biggie. Like I said just look it up if you are interested.

Because this review is basically just focusing on Oliver Stone because this is not the Oliver Stone that I grew up watching. It just isn't. So whatever is going on! And I feel it's the material he's working with that just isn't panning out.

Stick to what you know Oliver and keep doing controversial material ALL THE WAY THROUGH! Because that's what I love best about this guy...and still do.
