Review of Snowden (2016) by Eldon O — 30 Sep 2016
Perhaps the critics would have like Stone not to play it so "perplexingly safe," but I respect him for respecting his viewers intelligence. There are too many directors who tell their viewers what to think.
The star performance is remarkable. The tale is one that needs to be told, and told again, from many perspectives. We need to think about this man, what he did and why. I believe his courage should be a cause for celebration, but those who think otherwise should also watch it and draw their own conclusions.
Prior to seeing this, I watched three other Oliver Stone films at the Harvard Archive, "History Contested," that provide a useful and sobering view of the past 50 years of the reign of the American Empire.
As Stone observes, it will fall as all empires do, but what will it have accomplished during its reign?
