Review of Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) by Dan H — 13 May 2013
The film tries to be an ultra-serious and dark version of the classic tale with a few twists, but that is ultimately why it falls apart. It takes itself too seriously, unable to see just how silly and stupid this version of the tale really is.
Permeated by over-reacting from most of its cast (The Evil Queen's brother is the worst actor of the bunch, K-Stew is actually ok as Snow White until she turns into a warrior) and a bad script, not even the wonderful Charlize Theron can save this film.
It doesn't help that the film is incredibly slow paced and bloated. At least the troll scene, the poisoned apple scene, and the final battle with the shadow warriors are pretty cool, and the production design is good.
.unfortunately that's not enough for me to give this film a pass.
