Review of Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) by Darrel H — 05 Jul 2013
Snow White and the Huntsman was one movie that had me upside down. on one hand, this movie was pretty under hyped for me so I was expecting the worst but this exceeded my expectations. First of all, the film is shot flawlessly and the special effects are amazing. Charlize Theron ( Young Adult, Prometheus, Monster ) and Chris Hemsworth ( Thor, The Avengers, Cabin in the Woods) both gave very good performances.
Now onto the flaws of the film. First off, the story though being adapted from the Disney classic, is a little loose and all over the place at times. There are many times where this movie had me wondering why of all people, Kristen Stewart ( The Twilight Saga, Zathura, Panic Room) was named fairer than Theron. To go with that, Stewart completely lacks the power as an actress to play a warrior princess. and lastly, the film has terrible pacing, Snow White is only 2 hrs 7mins but it felt like it was almost 3hrs long. I sat through King Kong (2005) fully entertained and by the time it ended it only felt like it was about 2hrs 30mins when in fact, it was 3hrs long.
Over all Snow White and the Huntsman is no masterpiece, but it still manages to keep its audience entertained for a majority of the film.
