Review of Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) by Eyal D — 10 Oct 2014
Way too earnest for its own good SWATH offers up a variation on the classic most of us identify from Disney's animated classic and the bedtime stories our parents used to read us. So it's no surprise this film needed to offer more than just a visually darker spin in order stun, let alone impress the viewer.
And yet it misses the mark, offshooting its serious intentions by altering some key elements of the story. Still, its production value earns top marks and Charlize Theron relishes in the role of the evil queen, releasing her deeper angst from MONSTER in a somewhat way too seriously uncomfortable way, which is not to say it's a bad thing.
if you're going to go all out then you might as well go all out with a fierceful bang.
