David Gordon Green really is an original. This is the second film of his that I've seen, the first being All the Real Girls five years ago. That film was easily one of the most bizarre and hypnotic love stories I had ever seen, but I knew this director was a rare breed.

This is a guy who is fearless in exploring new and effective ways of storytelling. I really felt like I was viewing the inside of someone's head and seeing their memories. Snow Angels just further confirms that this is a guy who deserves to be around for a long time.

I'm told he lets the actors improvise a lot while the cameras are rolling which make for some extremely brutal and realistic performances here. Sam Rockwell is amazing in this film, with serious Oscar-worthiness.

The film tells a story of small-town America, deeply effected by an event that I will not reveal. The performances are excellent, and Green's direction brings us so close to this story. Green's next film, may seem like an odd choice.

It's The Pineapple Express, the next Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen project. To see a filmmaker go from such a powerful drama, to a raunchy comedy, is going to be fascinating to say the least.
