Review of Snitch (2013) by Matt W — 31 Mar 2014
Painfully contrived at times, and although Dwayne Johnson gives a surprising subtle performance, this film is never as clever or emotional as it thinks it is.
Unfortunately, this film is neither action-packed or that tense, it is just a little dull. it is clear that the film was supposed to be a tense film, that is suspenseful through conversation, than actual action.
Yet the problem is that the script is weak, and the directing mediocre, leaving the film feeling dull and plodding. And boy it really does plod.
There is no pump or underlying humour here, it's so overly serious, that it forgets that some of these characters are human, and not just cardboard cut-out 'drug-dealers'.
There are definitely nice moments, including one conversation between 'The Rock' and his son, when in prison, but unfortunately as a whole this film is both unbelievable and simply boring.
It is an interesting detour for Dwayne Johnson, but a film that never grabs you and then slowly unravels an uninteresting plot over a bloated runtime.
