Review of Snitch (2013) by Richard D — 20 Jan 2015
Here's faint praise for you: This movie is really not bad for a largely unmemorable action film. It's very very loosely based on a true story. A kid was caught dealing LSD. It was his first offence, but minimum sentencing laws were looking at putting him away for 20 years, so his dad agreed to turn informant.
It just didn't happen anything like this. Here's a case where really well-drawn characters played well by decent actors are stuck in a plot that just doesn't give them anything interesting to do.
Johnson is good as the dad. Barry Pepper is good as his handler. Jon Bernthal is really good as an ex-con employee of Johnson who's used by Johnson to get close to drug kingpin Benjamin Bratt. I just wish it had all lead somewhere other than a series of generic action sequences.
