Review of Sneakers (1992) by Ben L — 06 Jan 2012
Seldom is there a movie which I cannot find some minor thing to nitpick about. There's always something they could have done better, yet I just can't find that thing in Sneakers. This movie is delightful from the first beat to the last. And when I first went to see it I literally knew nothing about the movie. What a great surprise!
First of all, the cast is just amazing. Everyone from River Phoenix to James Earl Jones play their parts perfectly. Then there is the action sequences which manage to add excitement and tension with little more than guys talking on the phone or typing on a computer. The storyline is interesting and has some complex twists and turns to keep the audience guessing.
More than anything, though, I love this movie for the humor. I have seen comedies that are overloaded with world class comedians that aren't as funny as this film. The one-liners seem to come every other sentence, and even the final scene of a news report holds some chuckles as the movie ends. I've probably gushed enough. Suffice it to say that Sneakers is one of my favorite movies and I never tire of watching it.
