Review of Smokin' Aces (2006) by Lyric B — 06 Feb 2010
You would think that a movie with a stable of some of my very favorite actors (Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman) and a pretty sweet premise (tons of pro assassins all trying to kill someone while some FBI agents try to save him), that this movie could've delivered SOME enjoyment. Just about everything in this movie is a letdown (sans acting, which was pretty solid throughout). I saw the twist coming a mile away, the action was frequently uninteresting, and you'd think a movie with such ridiculous characters as the assassins would work some humor in.
Other than showcasing that Ryan Reynolds can act well in a serious role I see no real value in this movie. Definitely a skip.
