Review of Smokin' Aces (2006) by Keven W — 04 Apr 2010
This is one of those movies that I really didn't like at first but as I started watching it it grew on me and now I have kinda grown to like it. Its a high octane action packed ride that is wonderfully gory.
The plot I found to be confusing the first time I saw it but after a second time around it became clear. The story line as far as action movies go is actually rather good the problem I have with it is that there are some well, random things stuck in.
Like for instance the kid that gets a punching boner, as well as some awkward dialogue throughout. That set aside I very much like the camera work used in the film. For instance in the extras the director Joe Carnahan states talks about how he doesn't like a lot of cut scenes and likes to keep things like people getting shot in frame to add effect.
I agree with him whole heartedly on this. Also great acting from all cast members. So all in all I would say this film is very underrated so give it a try you might just like it.
